What is this strange material?

After 25 days of sleeping in the kitchen and wondering if it would ever end waiting, the flooring was ripped out and replaced with this interesting laminate.
It looks like wood, feels grainy like wood. But it's not!
Here is the kitchen:
Bedroom
I now wear slippers and socks when I am out of bed, and wandering the new flooring.
They locked us in the living room and I had to be awake by 9 am on this special day, which threw my sleep schedule off. I didn't feel well that evening so I played hooky, skipped work, called in absent.
The husband did most of the tidying up after the guys left, which was nice because I had just done a very through cleaning of the house, the day before and the laminate layers didn't think it part of their job to clean up and remove the mess they left behind.
I'm thankful that he took the initiative, because I thought we had an agreement, in which I did the dishes and he kept the bathroom clean. But sadly, I find I'm doing both because my grime tolerance is much lower then his.
Anyone want to come visit and see my new flooring?

You've Got Mail

I grew up in a rural area, where we had to walk 2 km each way (23 minutes according to Google maps) to pick up our mail from big green boxes. I have fond memories of a little red wagon, my mom and sister, on warm sunny days. We walked because my mom loved to walk and get us out of the house. Some days we would pick up the mail on the way to town, it was always a treat to be allowed to unlock the box and gather the treasures. Fast forward to 2006, they shorten our address, dropped the rural route to our street address and, (We still don't have the address posted on the driveway yet) changed our postal code, and gave us red boxes on tall legs.  Fast fwd to 2008, in St. John's they have the same red boxes, and no one on our street gets mail delivered to their doors. We all walk to the box and pick up our mail! Normally this would be a bright spot in my day, but it's been so windy and cold here, I dread the 0.1 km walk.  So twice a week I go pick up the mail.
Yesterday everything in the box was for me! My new visa card (long story), some gift certificates from a recent Partylite Order, and a handmade bookmark from my MIL.
  The bookmark was a surprise!
I've been participating in online swaps recently because I love getting things in the mail.

Yesterday I mailed off my Kitchen Swap Items.. Now I eagerly await my package in return.

What is your favorite items to receive in the mail?
Edit: My dad posted our address on our driveway last week, March 2010

I've been struggling with what to blog about. Why do I blog? Who cares what I blog?
I am finding I am slipping into my winter funk again. This happened a few years ago, when I didn't get much sunshine or outside time.
Maybe it's more my thoughts just get stuck in a dark abyss and I have a hard time wrenching them out. I sleep 12-14 hours a day. My countenance stays cheery but my brain feels like it's drowning. I become anti social, I hate being in crowds. I just wrap my self in my little community of people (here it's the cat and husband) I watch a lot of TV/Movies. I hate working out, and getting physical exercise in a gym.  Normally I would go sledding or snowboarding, but here on the East Coast, it's too cold to even walk to the post office.

So just hold tight while I work though this, I will be back, and I will start commenting on your blogs again too once again.

This is Daxter's favorite thing to do, when the Mister and I are playing on our computers
Tada! I tried a knit 3, purl 3.
This is the true color, and for some reason this photo looks odd.

Who is holding the reins today?

  • Tell the devil today, he is a liar, He will not take your joy, your peace or disturb your spirit.
  • Tell him he cannot sleep in your bed - there's not enough cover.
  • Tell him he cannot sit in your chair - you will not give him a cushion of comfort.
  • Tell him he can't touch your body - it's covered with the blood of Jesus!
  • Tell him he cannot audit your finances - you've changed accountants!
  • Tell him he cannot enter your home - the locks have been changed.
  • Tell him to leave your workplace - he's not on the list of things to do today.
  • Tell him to take his hands off your children - because you've had hands laid on them.
  • Tell him you have no time for nonsense, criticism, or fears - you are on a mission, and you walk by faith.
  • Tell him no more tears, heartaches or headaches - because there's another, He that restores your soul.
  • Tell him, today, you have a gentle, powerful inner peace within, that consumes you and leaves no room for confusion.
  • Tell him, today, you will respond soothingly to a crying child, a tense spouse, or an impatient friend.
  • Tell him, today, you will find no fault with a relative, friend, or colleague.
  • Tell him to leave your tongue alone - for today you will not talk about anyone, before placing God at the beginning of your thought.
  • Tell him, wherever you are,  God is. Tell him, God said, "My people will abide in a peaceful habitation... and in a quiet resting place." (Isaiah 32:18)

Today, tell him he is a liar!

"These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have trouble; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world" (John 16:33)

While you are making these statements of faith and fact, try reading the devil his rights just like the police do for anyone they arrest!
(1) You have the right to remain silent.
(2) You have the right to a fair trial - to be given to you by the saints before they drop-kick you into the pit of hell forever.
(3) You have the right to know that anything you say or do CAN and WILL be held against you.

GOD BLESS AND REMEMBER WHO IS IN CONTROL OF YOUR LIFE!

Toasty Toes

I have been sitting here looking at this spring/pastel bumpy yarn, wondering what I can create.
I have made so scarves, I am ready to be challenged. I want to make socks, They I've been browsing my new favorite site Knitty, I've figured out that I need more tools and patience.
The patterns are free, and yarn is easy to come by.
(tons of 80's sweaters at the Value Village that I can unravel)
I need to get my mom to look at home,
because I am sure that have a wack of needles from my last attempt at knitting.
(needles are so expensive brand new)

Happy Birthday Husband

Today Mr.Shiny turns 27!

When he came home from work (being after midnight) he was allowed to open his gifts.  I bought Mens face scrub from Body Shop, a photo album, dark Lindors, a calligraphy marker (when he opened the album he thought it was going to be a book. (oops)  So I think I may have to find him a nifty and unique writing book. I also bought a book for both of us to use. It's called the Dimwit's dictionary and it's very amusing and entertaining.
I made a cake, by request,  it's Chocolate Fudge/Cherry/Brownie. But no eating that until after dinner, which won't comprise of perogies because I couldn't find them or anyone to ask about them. (I search the frozen foods at least 3 times)

Sadly I have to work both Saturday and Sunday but the good news is the birthday boy gets to relax, so that ties in the day of silence, which was on his birthday request list. (Among a Wii and Mac computer)

Floating

on a compliment.
Mr.Shiny: "You know that you look very pretty with out make up on?"
Me:(slightly stunned feeling) "Oh?"
Mr. Shiny: "You should never wear make up."

Later trying to dig some detail out of him, the response I was given is, "You look more natural without it"
So it's been a make up free week, in honor of him and his birthday!

Here is my finished baby scarf!

I've started another scarf twice and taken it a part twice now too.
We shall see what conspires from it.

Cleaning & baking

I started this new year off with some cleaning, after sleeping until mid afternoon.
I decided to vacuum the entire place. Which lead to my dismay finding out the futon was covered in mildew, possibly mold.. (It was under our mattress)
So it's now residing on the fence outside. Our bedroom looks like this:
Our Mattress is now in the living room, and I'm waiting for someone's W.O.W. account to expire, so he will do the dishes and then watch a movie with me.

After my cleaning was finished, I was inspired to make Orginal Chipit Cookies, but I realized I had no eggs. So I went to www.allrecipes.com and found this interesting recipe
Butternut Balls

Love messages on Butternut Balls..... Decorated with Mint Chocolate Chips!
